We all need help from time to time, and Family Works offers a range of social services, from counselling and social work support, through to Buddy child mentoring and parent education programmes.

Services are confidential, free of charge and available no matter what your gender, religion or background may be.

Group Parenting Programmes

Learn how to manage the different personalities and needs within your family in a fun and interactive way.

This is a great opportunity to learn new parenting skills, manage challenging behaviours and better connect with your children.

Social Work & Counselling

Assistance with parenting, support to manage children's behaviour, advice and advocacy, Family Works has qualified and experienced staff to assist in your counselling needs.

Individual and family counselling for children, young people and their families, that builds on their strengths and supports them to achieve their goals.

Family Start

The Family Start programme is an intensive home-based service which works alongside parents/caregivers to help achieve better health, education and social outcomes for their children.

We support families in the areas of child development and safety, mental health, substance abuse, addictions, domestic violence or any other issues pertaining to family needs.

Strengthening Families

Strengthening Families helps you get the best support for your family/whānau to thrive.

Strengthening Families can be accessed by families with a child, children or young person(s) who needs help from more than one support service or government agency.

Buddy Programme

The Buddy Programme contributes to the emotional and social wellbeing of children by matching them with carefully selected and trained adult volunteers in a well-supported mentoring relationship.

Foster Care

Family Works provides foster care for children and young people (0-18 years) for a planned period when parents/caregivers or extended family members are not able to look after them.

Children and young people may need to be cared for away from their home for many reasons, but in all cases, there are issues relating to their care and protection, such as family stress, family crisis, family illness, parenting issues, violence, lack of family supports and resources.

Family Dispute Resolution Services

Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) helps parents/caregivers reach agreement on parenting arrangements after a separation or divorce.

The mediation service has been designed to support parents and caregivers resolve conflict without the need to go to court. This makes things much less stressful for everyone involved, especially the children.

Government Agency Referred

Family Works is contracted by Oranga Tamariki (OT) to provide casework under several service types, including social work for children to remain home, social work to return home, parenting assessments, supporting Family Group Conference outcomes, family/whānau agreements and caregiver reviews.
